Our first exploration on January 4 was at Migdal, believed home village of Mary Magdalene. During early construction excavation to build a Sea of Galillee resort, a remarkable discovery was uncovered. it was found to be synagogue, dated to the time of Jesus.
Dina Avshalom-Gorni, the excavator/director of the Migdal Synagogue site and an associate of Dr. Charlesworth and Lea, presented a detailed history of the location and archaeological discoveries, including a beautiful Torah stand carved from stone. Director Avshalom-Gorni answered all questions in detail with Dr. Charlesworth leading and flilling in.
Our next stop was at Peter's Primacy in Tagbha on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Dr. Charlesworth and Rev. Sharps, pastor of the church group on tour from Oklahoma led a prayer and communion service .
The rest of the day was exciting and memorable, visting the museum at Ginosar displaying the ancient Galillee Boat and then "up an down" the hills at Horvath Omrit, far from "your typical site-seeing visit." filled with spiritual uplifting, archaeological education and a fair amount of slippin' and slidin' to get up to and down from Horvath Omrit.
