The Princeton Dead Sea Scrolls Project was launched in 1987. It was a response to the charge that Christians were given the DSS to publish but failed to make the documents available.
The decision was made to publish all the non-biblical scrolls and allow anyone to make a judgment themselves.
We trust that nothing in these ancient Jewish writings would undermine the fundamental beliefs of established Christianity.
We have subsequently been able to demonstrate that Jesus was a Jew and a very devout Jew who was connected in some ways with mainstream Judaism; he was not a heretic or marginal Jew.
Then we discovered that "Christianity" was for decades an aspect of Early Judaism.
We are 80% finished with this massive Project that includes over 50 specialists [Jews, Roman Catholics, Protestants, and others] who are preparing critical texts, English translations, with an introduction to all the non-biblical Dead Sea Scrolls.
